Why is the Crypto Market Up Today as Bitcoin Price Reclaims $64k

Crypto just had a rough day, but it’s already getting back on its feet. Yesterday, the Crypto market took a hit and dropped to $2.16 trillion. But in the last 24 hours, it’s bounced right back up to $2.2 trillion, that’s a 1.45% climb.

The Bitcoin price is back above $64,000. That alone gave everyone a little breathing room. Ethereum’s up 2%. XRP jumped 3%. Solana moved up 1%. Nothing crazy, but enough to show things aren’t falling apart.

This recovery is not coming from one catalyst alone. Investors are reacting to a combination of improving regulatory clarity in the United States, whale accumulation, easing liquidation pressure, FOMC news later today and fresh optimism around the CLARITY Act.

Crypto’s 86% correlation with the S&P 500 also points to a broader risk-on environment in financial markets. With institutions paying close attention to new regulatory developments, here’s why the crypto market is up today.

Regulatory Clarity Gives Crypto Investors More Confidence

One of the biggest drivers behind today’s rally is growing clarity around US crypto rules.

The SEC and CFTC have reportedly agreed on a joint interpretation that classifies 16 major assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana, as digital commodities. Although this is not law, it offers institutions more certainty on how regulators view major cryptocurrencies.

Also, US regulators are working on “Project Crypto,” a joint initiative that aims to create clearer rules for staking, stablecoins, custody, fundraising and on-chain trading. The project could act as a temporary framework if the CLARITY Act remains delayed.

Investors are also watching developments in Congress. Reports indicate that Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego and Republican Senator Thom Tillis are finalising an ethics compromise that could unlock the 60 votes needed for the CLARITY Act to move forward.

Market participants view the bill as one of the most important pieces of crypto legislation because it would formally define whether assets fall under SEC or CFTC oversight. This reduction in regulatory uncertainty has encouraged capital to move back into digital assets.

Fed Decision Could Keep Markets Volatile

Everyone’s waiting on the Fed today. The Federal Open Market Committee, that’s the group that decides on interest rates, is about to speak. And whatever they say could move crypto, stocks, pretty much everything.

Right now, the market thinks there’s a 79% chance they leave rates where they are. Only a 21% chance they hike. If they pause, that’s good for riskier assets like Bitcoin, because borrowing money stays cheap.

But here’s the catch. It’s not just about today. People want to know what comes next. Last time, half the Fed officials were in favor of another hike. If this new update shows even more of them leaning that way, then markets could take a hit, crypto, gold, stocks, all of it.

That’s why a lot of traders aren’t going all in, even with the Bitcoin price back above $64,000. One hawkish surprise from the Fed and everything could flip in seconds.

Bitcoin and Ethereum Whales Are Buying

Large investors have also been active during the latest dip. Social and on-chain data point to major Ethereum accumulation, including a reported $76.7 million ETH purchase on Binance. Whale buying often indicates that large holders see value at present price levels.

Bitcoin derivatives data also show that selling pressure has eased. Bitcoin liquidations over the last 24 hours dropped 56% to $65.3 million after heavy leverage was cleared during yesterday’s decline to $62,600.

Open interest in Bitcoin futures has also reached its highest level in two months, led by Binance. Rising open interest means new capital is entering the market, although traders should watch leverage levels closely because a large move in either direction could trigger liquidations.

Global Developments Add to Positive Sentiment

Outside the United States, crypto regulation is improving in Europe as well. Hungary has removed a rule that required third-party validation for certain crypto transactions, reducing friction for users.

The country also issued its first Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) licence to CoinCash operator Tiwala Solutions, allowing it to offer crypto custody, exchange and investment services.

The bigger picture looks better too. The US Treasury just said they’ll buy back $2 billion worth of long-term government debt. That kind of move tends to free up cash in the system, makes things flow more easily.

For now, the main thing to keep an eye on is the Bitcoin price staying north of $64,000.

If regulators keep playing nice and big money keeps coming in, there could be more upside over the next few weeks. Not a guarantee, just a real possibility
