Ethereum community chooses: Top competitor is nobody, followed by Cardano and Tezos

Okay, what else would you expect from a loyal community to vote than the confident “nobody can match us”. However, if we ignore the overly confident voters, the rest of the community paints a moderately expected picture.

One of the Redditors on Ethereum subreddit posted a poll asking the community who they consider to be a worthy opponent to their platform. Among the listed choices were Ada, EOS, Tezos, Tron, other and the winning option “no-one is a match for our beloved Ethereum”.

There have been more than 700 votes up until now and the poll is still ongoing. As aforementioned, we will ignore the fanatic choice and check out how the poll went among the more objective set of voters.

Option “other” received 27.5% of votes and it could include blockchains like NEO, VeChain, QTUM, Dfinity, Stellar and many more. Of the other listed options, Tezos got 3.5% of votes and Cardano received 2.7% of the votes. Tron was derogated to irrelevance and got only 0.1%.

There is a beef between Cardano and Ethereum ever since Charles Hoskinson went his separate way after co-founding Ethereum. It is a common knowledge in crypto world that ADA is a blockchain with academic and philosophical dimension while Ethereum is more of a build quick, break things approach.  I suspect that the inherent antipathy among these two communities is the main reason for Cardano getting so little votes.

However, Ethereum is the one that actually works, has uncountable numbers of launched projects and better brand presence. Nevertheless, you can’t ignore its struggles with transaction speed and clogging up with higher usage. Cardano aims to solve this at the design stage – it seeks to be fast and safe from the get go.

Tezos got 3.5% of votes and, even though Tezos was one of the project that had the roughest inception, it is still a dark horse that could sweep the dapp platform niche. Right now, Tezos is far from Ethereum’s level in terms of accomplishments, however, they do have a better designed blockchain and will look to overtake Ethereum if ETH’s upgrade from PoW to PoS doesn’t go as smooth as planned.

From the category “others” – NEO got a lot of support in the comment section but also IOTA that is not primarily dapps platform but can be used for this purpose as well. Same can be said about Stellar Lumens, a wealthy company that is putting together a strong ecosystem around their blockchain.

Lisk, Zilliqa and Ark also got mentioned as potential darers.

What I find particularly interesting is the fact that only one user mentioned Bitcoin as the top competitor, which is indubitably the biggest threat to all altcoin use cases. Bitcoin’s sidechains for different use cases are being developed, a version of RSK as a sidechain for smart contracts is already live.
