Ledger Nano S, one of the most often talked about hardware wallets, recently officially announced that it will be supporting two new cryptocurrencies: TRON (TRX) and Zcoin (XZC). Both currencies are available on Ledger Live, wallet’s desktop application, and can be safely stored and transferred in and out.
The announcement was made via the following tweet:
“Ledger now supports Zcoin and Tron. These 3rd-party apps for the Ledger Nano S are available on Ledger Live. For more details on upcoming cryptos support for your Ledger device, please refer to our roadmap: https://trello.com/b/5nQ1mdzt/ledger-roadmap … Download Ledger Live http://ledger.com/live “
While the integration was completed back on July 12th, the official announcement came nearly a week later. TRX, world’s 11th most valuable cryptocurrency, has been waiting for this addition for quite some time, and Tronics were more than happy that it was finally confirmed. First to respond was Justin Sun, who tweeted this out:
“Thanks @LedgerHQ for supporting $TRX on your hardware wallet Ledger Nano S!”
The addition was first mentioned in mid June, when Ledger responded to a twitter user asking when they will add TRX support by saying:
“We invite Tron developers to get in touch with us and join our Developer Slack to evaluate the technical complexity related to their new blockchain.”
And evaluation has been completed as it seems. With this latest development, TRX users will finally be able to store and manage their cryptocurrency on a hardware wallet. Tron (TRX) can be managed from a Ledger Nano S through the use of Tronscan Desktop and the Tron app on your Ledger device. Both are developed and supported by the Tron community. Ledger released a short and concise instruction manual which explains the full details of integrating your TRX with their software.
Meanwhile Zcoin addition came as an added bonus. Zcoin (XZC) can be managed from a Ledger Nano S through the use of Electrum-XZC and the Zcoin app on your Ledger device. The full instruction on how to enable this option on your Ledger can be seen here.
With this addition, the total number of supported currencies on Ledger Nano S rises to 33, with coins like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Stellar (XLM), Ripple (XRP), Litecoin (LTC), NEO (NEO) and others proudly representing its line-up. For their part, Ledger doesn’t plan on stopping with TRX and XZC, and will be working hard on adding even more cryptocurrencies. They explained their approach to future additions:
“Ledger is not contracting coin support through paid integration anymore. Integration of new cryptocurrencies is done through internal evaluation criteria (market cap, community reach, etc). Developers are welcome to build integrations based on our SDK (please refer to our Developer Slack community).”
Therefore, further expansion of Ledger’s portfolio is to be expected soon enough. According to the roadmap posted above, Cardano (ADA), Monero (XMR), Lisk (LSK), IOTA (MIOTA) and Tezos (XTZ) are the closest ones to becoming a part of this illustrious roster.
