ZKsync has announced its highly anticipated token allocation plan, with 67% of the total ZK token supply earmarked for the community. The highlight of this allocation is a one-time airdrop, dubbed the “Mother of All Drops” (MOAD), which will distribute 17.5% of the overall supply to nearly 700,000 wallets.
This airdrop marks the largest token distribution among major rollups, surpassing even the locked allocations for the Matter Labs team (16.1%) and investors (17.2%).

Eligibility and Allocation Criteria
The ZK token airdrop aims to empower the community by providing them with the largest supply of liquid tokens to direct protocol governance upgrades when the ZKsync governance system launches in the coming weeks.
The airdrop focuses on identifying and rewarding real users who actively participate in the network, rather than relying solely on strict sybil criteria that may inadvertently exclude genuine community members.
The airdrop eligibility and allocations were determined based on a snapshot of activity on ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite taken on March 24th, 2024. The allocation process involved several steps:
- Eligibility: Addresses that transacted on ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite were checked against criteria that identify thoughtful exploration of the platform.
- Allocation: Allocations were calculated based on crypto assets bridged into ZKsync Era, adjusted for the duration of those assets in the platform, and boosted by additional points earned.
- Multipliers: Addresses could receive multipliers based on activities that signaled human behavior or contribution to ZKsync, such as owning ZKsync-native NFTs or tokens, using smart contract wallets, and engaging with popular ETH mainnet contracts.
- Sybil Detection: A conservative heuristics framework was applied to eliminate obvious sybil swarms while avoiding punishing real users.

In addition to the usage-based airdrop, 11% of the overall airdrop was allocated to individuals, developers, researchers, communities, and companies that contributed to the ZKsync ecosystem through development, advocacy, or education. More than half of this allocation (5.8%) is dedicated to the treasuries of ZKsync-native projects, empowering them to grow their communities further.
The remaining allocation recognizes contributors to Ethereum organizations, GitHub repositories advancing blockchain technology, educators, security researchers, and active community members. A small portion (0.4875%) was also allocated to experimental onchain communities exploring novel ways of organizing using tokens and NFTs.

Eligible community members can check their eligibility and claim their tokens starting next week until January 3rd, 2025. GitHub developers and ZKsync GitHub Discussion Helpers must associate their addresses by June 25th to be eligible.
With this massive airdrop and token allocation plan, ZKsync demonstrates its commitment to empowering its community and rewarding those who have contributed to the growth and success of the ecosystem.
