XRP News: Ripple Lands Huge Brazil Deal as XRPL Moves Beyond Pilot Stage

Ripple has secured a major new role for the XRP Ledger in Brazil, and this one goes well beyond a controlled blockchain experiment.

CSD BR, one of Brazil’s regulated financial market infrastructure providers, has started using the XRP Ledger as an additional layer for recording and auditing financial assets. The first assets involved are investment fund shares from BTG Pactual, with the project already moving into a live market environment.

That distinction is important.

The project is not another proof of concept running in isolation. CSD BR is using XRPL alongside its existing regulated systems, with real financial assets and live transactions.

CSD BR currently has more than BRL 22 trillion in registered assets, giving the partnership a scale that makes it one of the more notable institutional uses of XRPL in Latin America.

XRP Ledger Is Moving Into Live Financial Market Infrastructure

The first phase of the project focuses on record mirroring.

BTG Pactual investment fund shares held within CSD BR’s infrastructure will be tokenized and mirrored on the XRP Ledger using the network’s Multi-Purpose Token standard.

CSD BR’s internal systems will remain the official source of record for registration, custody and settlement.

XRPL will instead serve as an additional layer where authorized participants can check records, audit ownership data and verify consistency in near real time.

That setup allows the companies to test blockchain infrastructure under real operating conditions without replacing the legal and operational framework already used by Brazil’s financial market.

For Ripple, that is a meaningful step.

Many blockchain projects spend years in pilots without ever reaching live financial infrastructure. This project is designed to operate within Brazil’s existing regulatory framework while keeping the blockchain layer connected to actual securities records.

Why CSD BR Chose to Start With Record Mirroring

CSD BR is taking a conservative approach.

Rather than immediately moving full issuance and settlement onto XRPL, the company is starting with a mirrored record system.

Daniel Polano Spreafico, Head of Products and Clients at CSD BR, explained that the goal is to introduce the technology without disrupting the systems already used by investors, issuers and market participants.

That gives CSD BR a chance to evaluate whether blockchain can improve transparency, traceability, automation and operational efficiency before expanding the system further.

This approach also avoids changing the legal responsibilities of market participants.

The current processes remain intact, while XRPL operates as a complementary infrastructure layer.

The System Will Remain Permissioned and Regulated

The partnership does not turn Brazil’s securities infrastructure into an open public market.

Access will remain permissioned.

Only corporate and banking clients that meet Brazilian KYC and anti-money laundering requirements will be able to participate.

CSD BR will also keep control over issuance and asset administration.

That includes the ability to authorize participants, freeze individual assets when required and reverse transactions through clawback mechanisms in cases involving regulatory or judicial orders.

This is a good example of how public blockchain infrastructure can be used inside a tightly controlled financial environment.

XRPL provides the ledger and tokenization layer, while CSD BR keeps the compliance and governance tools required in traditional capital markets.

Ripple Custody Is Part of the Architecture

The project also brings Ripple’s custody infrastructure into the picture.

The system combines Ripple Custody with native XRP Ledger capabilities to support tokenized financial assets in a compliant environment.

That gives Ripple exposure to more than just blockchain settlement.

The company is increasingly building a stack around custody, tokenization and institutional asset infrastructure.

The CSD BR partnership fits directly into that broader strategy.

Ripple has been spending heavily on institutional finance infrastructure, and this deal gives it another real-world deployment where blockchain technology is being used inside regulated financial markets.

BTG Pactual Fund Shares Are Only the Beginning

The first phase starts with investment fund shares from BTG Pactual, but the roadmap is much wider.

Once the mirroring model is validated, CSD BR and Ripple plan to explore native issuance and trading among authorized participants.

Two asset classes already being considered are Real Estate Receivables Certificates, known as CRIs, and Agribusiness Receivables Certificates, or CRAs.

Both are important parts of Brazil’s fixed-income market.

Moving those instruments onto blockchain infrastructure would make the project much more significant than simple record mirroring.

The partners also plan to introduce more advanced privacy tools as the platform develops.

That will be important if the system expands into larger financial institutions and more sensitive asset classes.

Ripple News: The Model Could Eventually Expand Beyond Brazil

The initial focus is entirely on Brazilian assets and institutions.

But the architecture is being built with broader expansion in mind.

CSD BR and Ripple said the model could eventually support new asset classes, additional market participants and potentially other countries.

That gives the partnership a path beyond one domestic use case.

If the current phase works as intended, XRPL could become part of a broader institutional tokenization framework rather than remaining limited to one fund product.

Silvio Pegado, Ripple’s Managing Director for Latin America, described the move from pilots to live capital-market infrastructure as a major milestone for distributed ledger adoption.

That is probably the most important part of the announcement.
