
Ark Invest founder and CEO Cathie Wood says Bitcoin will stay the world’s top cryptocurrency. Speaking on The Master Investor podcast, she called Bitcoin a “rules-based global monetary system” and pointed out it’s the only Layer 1 blockchain that has never been hacked. Wood praised Ethereum for powering decentralized finance (DeFi), but said it faces stiff competition from newer Layer 2 networks.
She doesn’t believe Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin in market leadership. That view sparked a friendly debate with Fundstrat’s Tom Lee, who thinks Ethereum has long-term strength. After the interview, Lee called Wood “the GOAT of the crypto industry,” adding that she may continue to grow more positive on ETH.

Even with her strong Bitcoin stance, Wood said she is becoming more interested in Ethereum. She recently increased her exposure by buying shares of BitMine, a company involved in ETH mining and infrastructure. She explained that Ethereum is key for DeFi and smart contracts, even if she doubts it will replace Bitcoin as the main store of value.
Wood also commented on gold’s recent surge, saying it shows investors are looking for alternative stores of value. She believes this trend could help Bitcoin as well. While gold and Bitcoin may both benefit from worries about global monetary policy and inflation, she stressed that Bitcoin’s digital and decentralized design gives it unique staying power.
