Solana News: Midnight Brings Private DeFi as Institutional Tools Expand

Solana is getting fresh infrastructure on both the privacy and institutional sides of the ecosystem.

Midnight Explorer says Midnight’s upcoming v9 ledger upgrade will bring private DeFi functionality directly to Solana wallets, with support for shielded assets, private swaps, and sponsored dApp fees.

At the same time, the Solana Foundation has introduced a new institutional settlement tool, and BitGo has expanded its Solana offering through a partnership with HashKey Cloud.

Midnight Brings Private DeFi to Solana

The biggest development is Midnight’s move toward Solana integration.

The project says its v9 ledger upgrade will allow users to access private DeFi directly from supported Solana wallets without installing separate software.

Planned features include private swaps, shielded tokens, and sponsored application fees powered by Midnight’s dual-token model.

The testnet is already live and supports Backpack and Nightly wallets.

If the mainnet rollout works as planned, Solana users could gain access to privacy-preserving DeFi with a much smoother user experience than many existing privacy tools.

Solana DvP Targets Institutional Settlement

The Solana Foundation has also released Solana DvP, or Delivery versus Payment.

The open-source tool is designed to let institutions settle trades atomically on-chain, meaning the asset and payment move at the same time.

That can reduce counterparty risk because neither side has to transfer first and wait for the other side to complete the transaction.

Trades can settle using assets such as USDC, with SOL used for the small network fee.

The tool adds another piece of infrastructure aimed at institutions looking to move more traditional financial activity on-chain.

BitGo and HashKey Expand Solana Services

BitGo and HashKey Cloud also announced a strategic partnership covering staking, trading, custody, and real-world asset tokenization.

Solana is included alongside Ethereum in the institutional service package.

The partnership combines HashKey’s regulated presence in Hong Kong with BitGo’s custody infrastructure, which could help broaden institutional access to SOL-related products and services.

Overall, these developments point in three different directions: privacy, institutional settlement, and custody infrastructure.

Midnight is targeting a better privacy layer for everyday Solana users. Solana DvP is aimed at institutions that want faster on-chain settlement. BitGo and HashKey are building out the custody and service layer around the network.

Together, they add to Solana’s broader push to become infrastructure for more than just high-volume retail trading and memecoin activity.
