Michael Saylor has a simple way of describing his Bitcoin thesis: money is stored energy, and Bitcoin acts like a “deep freezer” that helps preserve that wealth over time. His argument centers on Bitcoin’s fixed supply and digital nature, with gold being more difficult to move and fiat money being influenced by governments and monetary policy.
The timing of that argument is interesting because the market is giving investors a very different picture. The BTC price is around $63,026 in the latest chart analysis, down roughly 47% over the past year. Gold, meanwhile, is trading near $4,376.60 and remains firmly entrenched in a multi-year uptrend.

Gold Is Running Ahead of Bitcoin
We had a look at the gold chart shared by Rashad, and the difference between the two assets is difficult to ignore. Gold has made a remarkable move, climbing from around $2,000 to $4,376.60 over the period covered by the analysis. That works out to a gain of roughly 118%, with the trend still firmly bullish as gold continues to print higher highs and higher lows.

For buyers, $4,500 is the next major level to watch. A break above it could bring $4,800-$5,000 into view. If selling pressure returns, $4,200 is the first support to monitor, followed by the broader $4,000-$3,800 support zone.
The Bitcoin chart shared by Martini presents a much weaker picture. The BTC price remains trapped between roughly $63,000 and $67,200, with $65,700 acting as the first resistance before the more important $67,200 level.

A confirmed break above $67,200 could send Bitcoin toward $68,000-$70,000. However, if the BTC price falls below $63,000, the downside could open toward $62,000 and then $61,600.

Tether Is Holding Both Bitcoin and Gold
There is also an interesting development on the institutional side. Tether has been accumulating both physical gold and Bitcoin, giving the company exposure to two assets often viewed as stores of value. Tether held around 146 metric tons of gold at the end of Q2 2026 after adding 14 tons during the quarter. Its Q2 report also showed approximately 98,933 BTC in its reserves.
🔥JUST IN: Tether holds 150 TONS of gold and more than 100,000 Bitcoin, per CEO Paolo Ardoino.

Ardoino says KPMG's audit meant physically checking every single gold bar.

That combination is worth noting because Tether’s strategy does not require choosing between Bitcoin and gold. It maintains exposure to both, even though their performance has moved in very different directions. Tether also offers XAU₮, a token backed 1:1 by physical gold held in Switzerland. This gives crypto users access to gold through blockchain infrastructure without needing to hold physical bullion themselves.
What Does This Mean for the BTC Price?
Saylor’s “deep freezer” argument ultimately comes down to Bitcoin’s scarcity, portability and fixed supply. The market data, however, shows that gold is performing better as a store-of-value asset at this point. For the BTC price, $63,000 is the key level to defend. Reclaiming $65,700 would give bulls some breathing room, but $67,200 remains the bigger test.
Until the BTC price breaks that resistance, gold has the stronger technical setup. The question for investors is whether Bitcoin can regain its footing and prove Saylor’s thesis through price performance, or whether gold will continue leading the store-of-value trade.
