There’s a growing idea behind x402 that changes how people think about blockchain usage. Instead of users picking a network first, AI agents handle most of that decision-making in the background. They find a service, check the payment requirement, settle it, then move on to the next task without human input.
That alone already softens the visibility of any single chain. Blockchain technology transforms into an infrastructure rather than the actual product that users utilize. It is more important to see whether the network will be able to accomplish the job effectively, safely, and at an affordable price.
This is where Algorand and Hedera will have to perform different functions according to the demands of the particular agent. Both can process value transfer. Both can support machine-to-machine payments. But they are optimized for slightly different strengths, which becomes more obvious when AI systems start routing work automatically.
Stablecoins like USDC also become more important in this setup. Pricing services in volatile tokens do not really work well when agents are executing payments at scale. Predictability becomes more useful than speculation.

How AI agents change the execution layer
With x402-style systems, an AI agent can request an API, receive a payment condition, settle instantly, and unlock access without friction. That removes a lot of manual steps that currently exist in Web3 integrations, as identified by Marco Salzmann, who discussed how x402 could reshape agentic commerce across networks like Algorand and Hedera.
🧵 x402 may blur the lines between @Algorand and @hedera.$ALGO and $HBAR can both serve as powerful network fuel.

But enterprises will not price APIs, data or services in highly volatile assets at scale.

The interesting part is that chains stop being a front-end decision. Instead, they act as settlement rails that compete on execution quality. One network may be faster for a certain type of transaction. Another may be preferred in environments where auditability and governance matter more.
This is where the idea of multi-chain execution becomes more practical. Agents do not need to commit to one ecosystem. They can route tasks dynamically based on cost, speed, or compliance requirements.
Algorand (ALGO) and Hedera (HBAR) Price and Market Behavior
The Algorand price climbed by 5.32%, reaching $0.127 over the past 24 hours. This was mainly due to a bullish trend that occurred above the 200-day exponential moving average of $0.125, supported by high volumes. What stands out is that this move also pushed the ALGO price above a long downward channel. Momentum indicators show strength without extreme overheating, with RSI around the upper mid-range.
From a structure point of view, holding above $0.125 keeps attention on the next resistance near $0.15. If that level fails, the market may revisit lower support closer to $0.11. There is also an upcoming CEO appearance on May 13 that could influence sentiment depending on how forward-looking commentary is received.
The Hedera price went downwards by 0.89% to $0.0903. This decline happened amid the weaker overall market, where even Bitcoin was declining. In this case, there were no specific triggers for HBAR, and volumes have declined. The HBAR price pattern has stayed largely range-bound for the time being. The support zone lies close to $0.0892, while short-term resistance is at around $0.0923. Momentum indicators are slightly to the positive side, but still within a range.
x402 and the Future of Machine-to-Machine Payments
When you connect x402 with current price action, the bigger picture becomes less about competition and more about function. Algorand price behavior shows stronger technical response in the short term, while Hedera price movement stays tied to broader market conditions.
But the long-term idea in the tweet is less about short-term charts and more about infrastructure. If AI agents become the main users of blockchain networks, then chain selection becomes an automated decision based on execution quality rather than preference.
