Defense lawyer James K. Filan just dropped huge news to the XRP community via his X account. Ripple and SEC settlement is now closer than ever.
On May 8, 2025, the SEC and Ripple filed a joint letter with Judge Analisa Torres. In it, they asked the court for an “indicative ruling.” That means they want the judge to confirm whether she would be open to approving a few final steps that would officially settle the case.
According to the filing, Ripple and the SEC have agreed on how to move forward. Now, they’re waiting on the judge to respond.
Here’s what they’re asking for. First, they want the court to dissolve the current injunction against Ripple. That injunction was put in place in 2024 and blocks Ripple from violating securities laws again. Removing it would be a big step toward closing the case.

Second, they want to release $125 million that Ripple already put into escrow. The agreement says that $50 million would go to the SEC, while the remaining $75 million would be returned to Ripple.
Third, once those two things are done, both the SEC and Ripple would ask the Court of Appeals to dismiss their appeals. That would officially close the case on all sides.
If Judge Torres gives the go-ahead, Ripple and the SEC will ask the Court of Appeals to send the case back to her. Then they’ll file a motion to make the settlement official. Once that’s done, they’ll both drop their appeals, and the case will be over.
This is a big turnaround. Just a year ago, the SEC was asking for the full $125 million and tough restrictions on Ripple. Now, Ripple may only pay $50 million and walk away with most of the money back.
The XRP community has been waiting for this moment for years. Many see this case as a major test of how U.S. regulators treat crypto. A clear win for Ripple could also bring new momentum for XRP.
All eyes are now on Judge Torres. If she gives the green light, this long legal battle may finally come to an end.
