A single account holding currencies, indices, metals, energies and cryptocurrencies looks like a convenience feature. Five markets, one login, one balance.
The convenience is real. What tends to go unexamined is that those five markets keep different hours, carry different liquidity profiles, and draw on the same pool of money in the account. Below are five things that change once a book spans them, with GenesisFX Markets as the worked example. It is an international CFD and forex platform provider trading all five as CFDs on custom-built infrastructure, currently through TradeLocker.
What you'll learn 👉
1. The trading week has different edges for each market
Currency trading runs continuously from Sunday evening to Friday evening, handed between financial centres as each one opens. Index and commodity contracts follow the hours of the exchange underneath them, which means defined daily opens, defined closes, and a settlement break. Cryptocurrency markets run continuously, weekends included.
Hold positions across all three and the account has no single moment when everything is closed. A trader who thinks of the weekend as flat is describing part of the book.
The practical consequence is a matter of attention. A position taken on Friday in one market sits untouched until Monday. A position taken on Friday in another keeps moving while nobody is watching it, and the price on Monday morning is where two days of continuous trading left it.
2. Liquidity inside one instrument is not constant
A currency pair is deepest when the financial centres that trade it are open. The overlap between London and New York, roughly eight in the morning to midday New York time, is the most active window in the foreign exchange market, and conditions outside it are thinner by a wide margin.
That has a direct cost. Quoted spreads reflect the conditions available at the moment of quoting, so the same instrument carries a different cost at different hours of the same day. A strategy backtested on one part of the session and traded in another is being executed under conditions it was never measured against.
Market News carries market intelligence at GenesisFX Markets, including an AI Analysis module delivering automated technical pattern tracking and market analysis, which keeps the reading of conditions in the same environment as the account.
3. The margin is one pool and the positions are many
Margin requirements are worked out position by position, and they are met from a single pool of account equity. That arrangement is standard, and it is where multi-asset accounts behave differently from how traders often picture them.
An open position in one asset class ties up equity that is then unavailable to every other. A drawdown anywhere reduces the room across the whole book at once, so positions a trader thinks of as independent decisions are competing for the same capital. Leverage compounds that: the larger the exposure relative to the equity behind it, the faster a move in one market constrains the others.
Entry size is the part a trader controls. GenesisFX Markets opens accounts from just $10 minimum deposit, funded in USDT, USDC, BTC or ETH, with card payments still in development, which allows a small first position while the behaviour of a new venue is still being established.
4. Correlations hold until they stop holding
The classic pairing is the dollar and gold, which have historically tended to move against each other. Traders learn the relationship early and often treat it as a constant.
It is not one. The strength of that relationship varies considerably over time and there have been extended periods where it weakened or inverted, including stretches in recent years. The same applies across the board: energy and equity indices, currency crosses and commodities, crypto and risk assets generally.
The exposure that follows is specific. A trader who opens two positions believing they are uncorrelated, and finds the relationship has tightened, is carrying roughly double the position they intended. The reverse costs less but still misprices the book. Correlation is worth checking at the point of sizing, on every occasion.
5. The trading record now covers five markets at once
A record from a single-market trader describes how they trade that market. A record spanning five describes something broader, and the differences between them are where the useful information sits.
At GenesisFX Markets the Trade Journal holds the closed positions across the range. The AI Trade Coach reads three months of that history and returns retrospective behavioural analytics and habit diagnostics, with an objective A to F evaluation attached to trade exits, and assembles the fuller breakdown the company calls Strategy DNA after around four or five closed trades. Diagnostic feedback and exit evaluations appear in the same chat window to support self-directed analysis.
A multi-asset record can show whether a trader performs consistently across all five, and few do. Holding one method across currencies and energies produces different outcomes in each, and a behavioural read drawn from the whole book is where that becomes visible. Genesis Academy handles education across levelled material, which gives a trader extending into an unfamiliar asset class a structured route into it.
What one account does not consolidate
Five markets under one login do not become one market. Each keeps its own drivers, its own calendar and its own liquidity pattern, and a trader active in all five is following five sets of conditions.
Nothing about the account structure changes that, and no platform claims to. What it changes is the overhead. The hours, the margin pool and the record are handled in one place, which leaves the trader’s attention for the part that was always the actual work.
Availability of specific products and services differs by market.
