More Value for KAS Investors: Kaspa’s Mempool Can Now Handle 1.4 Million Transactions

Kaspa, a front-runner in blockchain technology, has recently fine-tuned its mempool to perform admirably even under tremendous stress. Michael Sutton spearheaded this endeavor, documenting each stride on Twitter/X, with essential assistance from Rust expert Tiram_88.

Previously, the company had temporarily suspended its eleventh testnet, TN11, to recalibrate every facet of the mempool’s functions. Besides focusing on its consensus validation engine, which could manage 32 BPS, Kaspa found that the initial mempool design had significant bottlenecks. Hence, an overhaul was necessary.

The Challenges that Necessitated Overhaul

Before the revamp, Kaspa’s mempool was somewhat simplistic and struggled under heavy loads. The system almost stopped during tests, particularly between the 60- to 80-second timeframe. Consequently, it could not efficiently handle more transactions than a 10-BPS BlockDAG would permit.

Two crucial metrics popped out: operation time and real-time mempool size. Both displayed that Build Block Template (BBT) and block submission times were scaling up rapidly as the mempool size increased. Significantly, this led to three key optimization objectives:

  • Swift block building to improve network responsiveness
  • Immediate removal of confirmed transactions for smoother operations
  • Steady acceptance rate for new, unconfirmed transactions, irrespective of mempool load

Impressive Results Validate the New Approach

Following the redesign, the mempool underwent massive changes. Large tasks were broken down into smaller, more manageable tasks. Additionally, internal algorithms received critical updates for improved performance. The new system impressively handled a mind-boggling 1.4 million transactions during test runs.

Moreover, the BBT times hovered around 25 milliseconds, and block submissions averaged 150 milliseconds. Furthermore, the system processed over 2,000 transactions per second, maintaining these rates even under substantial mempool loads.

Kaspa’s latest updates in mempool management signify an adept and resilient system capable of efficiently handling high-volume transactions. The days of long waits and limited throughput are heading towards an end. With a sharper focus on quick and reliable transactions, Kaspa has set a new standard in the blockchain world.
