Solana Validators Urged to Prepare Ahead of Alpenglow Activation

Solana validators are being urged to complete final preparations ahead of the network’s upcoming Alpenglow activation, with a notable share of stake still reportedly not ready for the transition.

With roughly one day remaining, data shared by PumpkinsPool showed 151 validators representing about 20.3% of Solana’s stake had yet to complete the required setup.

Anza and the Solana Foundation are now calling on those operators to update their systems before activation.

What Validators Need Before Alpenglow Goes Live

The main requirements are straightforward.

Validators need to be running Agave 4.3.2, have a BLS key configured, and maintain enough funds in their vote accounts.

Those that fail to meet the requirements before the activation will no longer be able to vote or produce blocks once the new system goes live.

That is why the remaining 20.3% figure is getting attention. A large enough group of unprepared validators could temporarily reduce active participation after the switch, even if the network continues operating.

The upgrade is important because Alpenglow changes how Solana handles consensus and validator participation, making preparation essential for continuous block production and voting.

Anza and the Solana Foundation are therefore emphasizing readiness rather than treating the upgrade as a routine software update.

The latest numbers do not mean 20% of Solana’s stake will definitely go offline. Validators still have time to complete the required steps before activation.

The immediate question is how much of that unprepared stake is able to upgrade in the final hours.

If most validators complete the process in time, the transition could proceed with limited disruption. If a significant portion remains unprepared, the network could temporarily see reduced validator participation after Alpenglow activates.
