Gold has spent much of October struggling between support near $4,100 and resistance around $4,200-$4,220, leaving traders with a simple question: where could XAU/USD actually finish the year?
To get a structured answer, we asked ChatGPT to forecast gold’s December 31, 2026 price using the current market backdrop rather than simply producing a number.
The prompt included gold’s recent trading range around $4,150-$4,200, support at $4,100 and $4,075-$4,040, resistance near $4,220, elevated U.S. inflation, Treasury yields around the 5% area, Fed uncertainty, oil prices and the possibility of either another correction or a renewed rally.
We also explicitly asked the model to consider bullish and bearish cases, provide technical confirmation levels and avoid exaggerated targets.
Its final prediction: $4,250 per ounce.

ChatGPT Expects a Modest Gold Recovery
ChatGPT’s base case places gold between $4,100 and $4,400 at year-end, with $4,250 as the specific December 31 target.
Using roughly $4,175 as the starting point, that implies only about 1.8% upside.
The model does not expect a straight rally. Instead, it sees consolidation first, with another downside move still possible before gold attempts a more sustainable recovery.
Its reasoning centers on the repeated buying around $4,080-$4,100. That zone has attracted demand, but gold has also struggled repeatedly around $4,200-$4,220.

In ChatGPT’s view, that means buyers have not yet established enough control to justify a much more aggressive forecast.
The model said a weekly close above $4,220, followed by a successful retest, would strengthen its $4,250 base case.
A sustained move above $4,300 would shift the outlook toward the bullish scenario.
Bullish and Bearish Gold Price Scenarios
ChatGPT gave a wider realistic year-end range of $3,750-$4,650.
| Scenario | Year-end range | Target |
|---|---|---|
| Base case | $4,100-$4,400 | $4,250 |
| Bullish | $4,450-$4,650 | $4,550 |
| Bearish | $3,750-$3,950 | $3,850 |
The bullish case depends on falling real yields, a weaker dollar and stronger investment demand.
Under those conditions, ChatGPT puts $4,550 in play, roughly 9% above the starting price used in the prompt.
The bearish scenario is almost the mirror image.
If inflation remains persistent, Fed expectations turn more restrictive and real yields continue rising, gold could lose the $4,040-$4,000 area. ChatGPT then sees approximately $3,850 as a realistic year-end downside target.

What Will Decide the Gold Price Into December?
ChatGPT identified three variables as the main drivers.
First is inflation and the expected Fed policy path. Hot inflation can increase demand for gold as an inflation hedge, but it can also push real yields higher, which works against the metal.
Second is the U.S. dollar and Treasury market. A weaker dollar and falling real yields would make the bullish scenario easier to defend.
Third is physical and investment demand, including ETF flows, central-bank buying and safe-haven demand.
The model assigned a subjective 50% confidence to gold finishing inside its $4,100-$4,400 base-case band. It explicitly noted that this is not a statistically validated probability.
So the forecast is not calling for an explosive finish to 2026.
ChatGPT’s view is more restrained: gold may still have another volatile period ahead, but if $4,000 survives and $4,220 eventually gives way, $4,250 is its most likely year-end destination.
