Filecoin price has been one of the strongest movers in crypto over the past day, with the price climbing more than 22% to around $1.00. That’s a big jump, especially with most major coins posting much smaller gains. A lot of traders are asking the same question: what’s driving the FIL price rally?
The answer appears to be a mix of aggressive buying, a wave of short liquidations, and growing confidence in Filecoin’s long-term use case in decentralized storage and AI-related infrastructure.

Volume Spike and FIL’s Growth Story Helped
The main driver behind this move is trading activity. Spot volume jumped above $500 million, that’s a 1,008% increase from the day before. When that much liquidity floods into a market that fast, prices tend to move quickly. Simple supply and demand.
The derivatives market also played a major role. Funding rates turned positive and traders betting against the FIL price found themselves under pressure. As those short positions were liquidated, forced buying added even more fuel to the rally.
That combination helped drive the FIL price from the mid-$0.80 range to the doorstep of $1.00 in a matter of hours. The move wasn’t tied to one major announcement. It was largely driven by market positioning, rising volume, and traders chasing momentum.
Beyond the short-term trading action, Filecoin is still building on its core business. The network keeps growing in decentralized data storage, which matters more as AI apps need bigger datasets and more room to store them.
There’s also more activity around the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM), which lets developers build programmable apps right on the network. That gives Filecoin a wider use case beyond just storing files. Investors are also keeping an eye on the Solstice governance proposal. It’s aimed at making onboarding easier and improving network efficiency.

The FIL Price Is Now Facing a Key Test
We had a look at the FIL chart and the token is trading around $0.9949, right near one of the most important levels on the chart. The $1.00 area has become the key battleground between buyers and sellers.

If FIL can establish itself above that level, traders will likely start eyeing $1.05 and then $1.10 as the next targets. But momentum indicators are flashing a warning. The RSI has climbed to 76.31, overbought territory.
There’s also bearish divergence on the chart, meaning momentum has weakened even as price pushed higher. That doesn’t guarantee a reversal, but it does raise the odds of profit-taking after such a strong run. If buyers lose control of $1.00, support sits around $0.95 and $0.90.

What’s Next For The FIL Price?
FIL still has a bullish structure, but the next few days matter. Holding above $1.00 keeps the focus on $1.05 and $1.10, with Fibonacci extension targets near $1.09 and $1.17 also in view.
A rejection here could send it back toward $0.95 as traders take profits from the rally. And there’s a big macro event coming, the Fed’s rate decision on September 16. That could shift risk appetite across crypto and decide whether buyers stick around after this run.
For now, FIL is running on strong volume, short-covering, and continued ecosystem growth. The question traders are trying to answer is simple: does this move have enough momentum to break above $1.00 and keep going, or does the market need to catch its breath first?
