As Q1 ends, Ondo Finance ($ONDO) and XDC Network ($XDC) are growing fast in Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization, but they’re playing very different roles.
ONDO is focused on institutional finance and tokenized securities, while XDC is silently modernizing trade finance and supply chains.
Understanding their differences is key if you’re trying to figure out which one to hold or which has more upside potential.
What you'll learn 👉
ONDO Finance: The Institutional RWA Powerhouse
$ONDO has grown from a niche DeFi project into a serious bridge for traditional finance. Big institutions can now move assets on-chain in ways that weren’t possible before.
Early this year, ONDO partnered with Franklin Templeton, one of the largest asset managers in the world, to tokenize five of their ETFs, letting investors trade them 24/7 instead of being restricted by traditional market hours.
ONDO now dominates around 60 to 70 percent of the tokenized stock market, giving non-US investors access to stocks like Apple and Tesla through blockchain wallets.
They’ve also launched “Ondo Perps,” a derivatives platform that allows leveraged trading on tokenized stocks and commodities. Their stablecoin USDY continues to expand across chains like Solana and Sei, showing that ONDO is serious about multi-chain growth.

Two RWA plays with very different risk profiles, but only one looks like the smarter hold right now.$ONDO: The blue-chip RWA play. Institutional, proven, and capital-efficient.

On the regulatory front, ONDO has gone all-in, securing licenses to operate as a broker-dealer and ATS in the US, and gaining approvals for tokenized securities in the EU and Dubai.
The downside is that a major token unlock is coming in January 2027, which could create short-term selling pressure, and historically, ONDO’s price action has lagged behind its strong fundamentals. Still, for those looking for steady institutional growth, ONDO is the safer, more mature option.
XDC Network: The Trade Finance Sleeper
$XDC is taking a different angle on RWA. Instead of focusing on tokenized securities, it’s modernizing trade and supply chain finance, turning slow, paper-heavy processes into something fast, auditable, and on-chain.
The Cancun upgrade in early 2026 aligned XDC with Ethereum standards and introduced EIP-1559-style fee burning, which makes transactions more predictable and reduces token supply.
XDC has already supported major trade finance deals, including a $75 million tokenized debt issuance in Brazil, and is working on agricultural supply chain financing between India and Australia.
They’ve partnered with global initiatives to digitize trade documents like bills of lading and invoices, making international trade more efficient.
The network is ISO 20022 compliant, integrates native USDC for liquidity, and is even building XDC-AI, an on-chain credit scoring tool for SMEs to enable compliant lending.
The trade-off is that XDC’s DeFi TVL remains very small compared to ONDO, and retail adoption remains in the early phases.
However, if trade finance pilots and enterprise adoption take off, XDC has the potential for explosive growth and remains the high-upside bet for those willing to take on more risk.
Head-to-Head: ONDO vs XDC
In the end ONDO and XDC are strong and no longer experimental. ONDO focuses on tokenized securities and institutional finance, with big names like Franklin Templeton in its corner, while XDC is building the backbone for trade finance and supply chains, working with partners like Tradeteq and SBI Japan.
ONDO’s strength lies in its regulatory compliance and 24/7 trading access, whereas XDC’s hybrid model offers near-zero-fee settlement and a pathway to scaling real-world trade digitally.

Verdict: Defense or Offense?
When it comes to holding a steady RWA play, ONDO is the clear choice. Its proven AUM growth, sticky yield products, and cleaner supply picture make it a more stable, capital-efficient option.
XDC, on the other hand, is more of an offensive move, its potential upside is higher if enterprise trade finance adoption picks up, but it comes with more uncertainty.
However the analyst noted that ONDO and XDC are shaping the future of RWA tokenization. ONDO is the mature, institutional powerhouse, while XDC is silently building the infrastructure that could redefine trade finance.
