Litecoin Could Overtake Zcash as the Go-To Privacy Coin, Says Crypto Expert

The privacy coin conversation is popping up again, and this time it’s not really about Monero. It’s about Litecoin and Zcash, and whether one of them is better positioned for the long run.

According to crypto commentator Crash, Litecoin has a much better shot at winning that race.

His argument isn’t about fancy tech or short-term price moves. It’s about trust, reputation, and which coins can realistically survive in a more regulated crypto world.

Zcash Has a Reputation Problem

Zcash was designed to be private from day one, and technically, it does that job well. The issue is how it’s perceived now. Over the years, Zcash has picked up a reputation for being too centralized and too closely tied to a company.

For a lot of people in crypto, that’s a red flag. Privacy coins already sit under a microscope, and when a project feels company-run, it raises even more questions. Crash believes that this perception alone could hold Zcash back over time, no matter how good the tech is.

In simple terms, Zcash doesn’t feel as neutral or as permissionless as it once did, and that matters more than many people want to admit.

Why Litecoin Feels Like the Safer Choice

Litecoin comes into this discussion from a totally different place. It’s one of the oldest cryptocurrencies around, it’s survived multiple bear markets, and it hasn’t really changed its identity along the way. That’s why many still call it the “silver to Bitcoin’s gold.”

When Litecoin added MimbleWimble Extension Blocks, it didn’t try to turn itself into a fully private coin. Instead, it added optional privacy. You can use it when you want, but the base network stays transparent.

Crash sees this as a big advantage. Litecoin offers privacy without completely clashing with regulators. That makes it easier to list on exchanges, easier for institutions to deal with, and easier for everyday users to actually use.

Trust and Simplicity Go a Long Way

Another thing that is definitely in Litecoin’s favor is trust. Litecoin does not rely on hype or exciting stories and is not full of updates and improvements all the time. It’s boring – and that’s what money should be.

Zcash, on the other hand, has struggled to keep that same level of confidence from the market. Questions around governance and long-term direction haven’t really gone away. Over time, that gap in trust could push more users toward Litecoin as the practical privacy option.

Crash isn’t saying Litecoin will suddenly replace Zcash overnight. He’s saying that over the long run, reliability tends to win.

And Where Does Monero Fit?

Crash also makes one thing very clear. Monero is in a category of its own. He describes it as the ultimate privacy coin, operating in what he calls an unstoppable, hidden layer of crypto.

But that level of privacy comes with trade-offs. Monero faces much heavier scrutiny and limited institutional adoption. That’s why Crash sees the market splitting into two paths.

Monero dominates pure privacy. Litecoin1 fills the compliant privacy role. Zcash is stuck somewhere in the middle, risks slowly fading out.

Whether this will come to pass or not is left to be seen, but the point made in the argument is that a shift has begun to take place. In the world of crypto, simply having privacy is no longer enough.
