This bug, identified by Solana Labs developers a week earlier, caused an unexpected loop in the transaction process, effectively halting blockchain transactions.
Despite being known, the bug had multiple triggers, and developers had only addressed one of them before the outage occurred. Solana Labs published a detailed report on February 9, shedding light on the technical aspects of the incident. According to the report, a legacy loader program triggered an infinite recompile loop in the JIT cache, leading to the transaction process entering an infinite loop.
While the bug primarily affected version 1.17 of Solana’s validator client, the majority of the cluster stake was running on this version at the time, leading to widespread impact. Despite this setback, Solana remains one of the top crypto coins in the market, known for its robust technology and high scalability.
