The cryptocurrency repositories are among the most popular repositories of GitHub’s latest Octoverse, or its annual report 2018, which gathers all the developments around open source software, announced this Tuesday on the website.
In the section dedicated to projects, GitHub points out that the cryptocurrency sector has a lot of momentum and positions it in sixth place, within the fastest growing section. GitHub indicates in the report that ” the topics in different areas for the development of blockchain are also trend “.
Regarding crypto currencies, there are 4,525 repositories in Github in total. The most popular among users is Bitcoin, which covers aspects of integration with Bitcoin Core and already accumulates more than 35,000 positive ratings from stargazers. These participants mark the repositories of greater interest for a later reading or to be documented about which aspect they want to delve deeper. The more stars, the more interesting the repository becomes for the community.
It is followed by the Bitcoin repository, the ccxt repository, which is a “library of JavaScript, Python and PHP cryptocurrency operations, with support for more than 100 bitcoin or altcoins exchanges” and which adds up to 8,891 ratings, according to the report. The third place is for the repository of LBRY, blockchain platform that has 4.075 stars.
GO-ETHEREUM PROJECT
The go-ethereum repository is another one of the favorites of the report, since it indicates that the number of collaborators has multiplied by 2 in the last 365 days. In addition, it ranks fifth as one of the fastest growing open source projects. The Github community, interested in the development of this project, has rated it with 21,229 stars. In this category, go-ethereum was only surpassed by MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs, pytorch/pytorch, godotengine/godot and nuxt/nuxt.js.
GitHub, owned by Microsoft, issues this annual report that serves as a guide for more than 31 million developers who work on this platform to make reviews of programming codes, manage projects and build free software. In total there are more than 96 million repositories and 2 million organizations that use GitHub, which represents a growth, in both cases, of 40% when comparing the figure with the previous cycle.
Although at one time it was claimed that this acquisition could lead to the flight of cryptocurrency projects to other code repositories like GitLab, the truth is that GitHub is still the largest repository today and the blockchain community seems to have full confidence in this platform. In fact, it even serves to calculate the market value of a cryptocurrency according to the data that is included in the repository.
